GoFundMe Campaign launched!

Back in September 2021, I finally set out to get started on venturing more into Sci-Fi/Horror which is something that had been on my mind for a very long time. As a huge fan of these genres from books, to movies, to games, the pressure of getting started is almost as frightening as the indescribable horrors of any Lovecraftian nightmare. Luckily, I’m a part of a very supportive community of family, friends, and fans near and far who all played a significant part in inspiring me to take the first step by launching this campaign to raise awareness and support.

And so, came birth of flowers: a horror anthology…

Anthologies, one of my favorite forms of storytelling, is also arguably the most popular format for sci-fi horror. We live in a wonderful time of standalone stories such as Netflix series like Haunting of Hill House, Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, Black Mirror, Love and Death + Robots, Amazon Studios’ Tales from the Loop, and many more. As someone who has read books such as Beyond the Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft, Stephen King’s Skeleton Crew, Nightmares and Dreamscapes I and II, Victor LaValle’s The Changeling (and I can certainly go on), my inspiration is rich with a diverse history of learned horror… but even as more and more screams on-demand hit the screen, there’s almost always a commonly lacking or missing piece for me as a viewer: characters I can relate to based on the lived experiences I’ve had. That’s why I needed to make Birth of Flowers a Sci-Fi/Horror that centers on characters that look like me and represent what my world looks like as best as I can.

Birth of Flowers is…

Birth of Flowers is Black Mirror meets Stephen King’s macroverse.

A series of standalone episodes with a focus on horror and sci-fi to be used as genre frameworks to showcase a variety of complex ideas and stories. My goal is to gather a small handful of writers with a talent for subverting expectations and using conventional elements successfully where appropriate. Birth of Flowers is Black Mirror meets Stephen King’s macroverse of cosmic horror. Each tale is a wildly different nightmare, with the entire collection of season one’s episodes amounting to one hour of spooks filled to the brim with style and substance. Birth of Flowers is not a soulless husk attempting to ride on the coattails of Jordan Peele’s success. Respectfully, we’ve seen enough of those, and where this horror anthology stamps its footprint is the spaces where our deepest fears were born; the places that creative masterminds like Peele got their inspiration from in the first place. This is tall talk coming from a newcomer to horror, I know… but I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t mean it with every fiber of my heart. Birth of Flowers is an infinite garden of all fears, a new universe brought to life by the next generation of the most inspired horror storytellers, and I’m happy to take up space and be a part of that.

why support?

I’m an experienced microbudget filmmaker who has written and directed The Corridor, Static Shock: The Fan-Made Web Series, Ellipsis, and most recently a short visual called Billow. I’ve also been a part of several independent productions made by friends in the filmmaking community over the past decade for revolving duties from Production Assistant, Camera Operator, 2nd AC, AD, and Boom Operator. Most of my works have been self-funded or have had no budget at all, simply due to my love for the art of filmmaking (and often the soul-crushing mistake of being afraid to ask for help). However, as I grow, so does my art, and the resources for my visions are obviously not free, nor is the time for hired professionals. I want each of my productions to be better than the last in every way possible, and I believe with your support for the GoFundMe Campaign for the Birth of Flowers Horror Anthology that we can achieve that together.

The plan is to raise at least $6,000 to shoot six short episodes of 5-15 minutes in length. Each will revolve around a small cast of exciting characters influenced by your favorite modern horror films, video games, books, and tv shows, all made with a skeleton crew of filmmakers.

Here’s what the $6,000 is for:
  • Paying Writers, Cast, and Crew – The more you donate, the more we can pay
  • Buying/Renting Equipment – Lights, Sandbags, C-Stands, Fog machine, Stock Elements (music, vfx, sound, etc) to be used throughout production
  • Securing locations
  • Set Dressing
  • Costumes
  • Hair and Makeup
  • Props
  • Craft Services
  • COVID Sanitation Stations and PPE

What’s in it for me?

That’s probably what you’re asking, and if so, I wouldn’t blame you. Here’s the rundown:
